Now taking commissions and enquiries.

1. Holt Hall Grounds, Silver Birch, 80x40cm

2. Self Portrait, Mean Mr. Mustard. 50x60cm

I nearly lost this painting under another painting. Better judgement helped me get back to the original. I could have done with a hair cut too. Inspired by William Nicholson

3. Watercolour Sketch, A5

4.Mulberry House, Oil on Canvas, 40x30cm,

My Parent's garden. It is not an overgrown garden. Just this bit. I don't care if you can't tell what it is. I don't care because I have achieved what I wanted. The subject isn't the foliage so I'm not going to paint it. Neither is my subject colour or light or atmosphere. They are simply components of composition. To some extent this is an example of picture making, there are many more compositional elements to make the composition including the brush marks, the degrees of green, the disbursement of repetitive colours, a balanced focal point, warm and cool, light and dark. All of these elements are obvious and bold. Composition is mostly instinctive but it takes a long time to use it as picture instead of a subject.

Nude, Northcote Road,Oil on Board, 23x28cm. Prize winner at the ROI annual exhibition

Painted in one session with one hog hair brush. Life models are an interesting subject. Men painting naked women has to have some implications. I detest beautification of women in painting. How I choose to portray women is my decision as an artist and a man. Whatever I think, the first question anybody should ask when they choose a subject is 'why?'. I'm not going to say why I painted this or any other of my paintings. Some are emotionally very deep rooted and others are for the sake of painting. It would be unfair to say which is which.

Nora III, 15x20cm, Oil on board

Not Nora the Third but Nora the third painting. I have a sketchbook full of drawings of Nora and John (who is yet to be painted). The first painting of Nora has nearly been sold several times. I think Rohan owns it now. The second painting was rejected from the Mall Galleries. This painting was from a burst of excitement I've had for painting stuffed birds. I still have a Jay, Dove and Teal to paint. I would really like to get hold of a Parrot. Enter joke here.

7&8 Model, Holt Hall 08, 15x20cm, Oil on board

Beth and Liz. Painting in front of people is odd. Its about performance which really goes against the nature of painting. It is remarkable how you are effected by pressure. I like these pictures because I have obviously lost the fear of cocking it up and just enjoyed painting them.
